Obituary of William L. Muncaster

William ("Bill") Lucas Muncaster, was truly a member of the Greatest Generation. He was born July 19, 1915 during WWI, endured the Great Depression, volunteered for WWII, and moved from the East to Santa Barbara in 1946. His beloved wife and mother of his two daughters, Connie, passed away in 1949. He married Rebecca (Becky) Hellerman in 1951 and moved a few miles to then-tiny Goleta, where he was the area's first rural delivery mailman. Bill and Becky were active in the community and helped start the Goleta Presbyterian Church, Goleta's Community West Bank, and various local research firms. Proud and humbled as Goleta Man of the Year in Year 2000, Bill was engaged in life. His most recent honors include a Community Service Award presented by Congresswoman Lois Capps, and riding in the lead car as the Honored Veteran in the November 2013 Veterans' Day Parade. Bill was passionate about golf, reading, and supporting a number of organizations, including the local Elks Lodge, the Military Order of World Wars, Friendship Force, Alisal Golf Course, and the Goleta Boys and Girls Club's local Summer Camp Whittier. Bill accomplished much and truly enjoyed his 98 years. He will be missed by many, including his two daughters, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. His life will be celebrated with two remembrances on Saturday, March 22: Goleta Presbyterian Church, 6067 Shirrell Way, Goleta, at 11am, and the Goleta Elk's Lodge, 150 North Kellogg Ave, Santa Barbara, CA 93111 at 3:30. All are invited to attend and, if desired, bring a written remembrance of a shared experience. In lieu of flowers, friends may honor Bill by contributing to Kid's Camp Whittier in his memory, either care of Goleta Elks Lodge, or care of Goleta Boys and Girls Club, 5701 Hollister Avenue, Goleta, CA 93117. Thank you to one and all for sharing in his life. -
