Leonard Gomez

Obituary of Leonard J. Gomez

"Leo" left this earth and his loving family on August 20, 2012 to meet His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven. Born in Santa Barbara on July 17,1955, he attended local schools, excelling in track and field. After graduating from Bishop Diego High School in 1973, he joined the U.S. Army, proud to become the 3rd generation to serve. Upon his military discharge, Leo's lifelong dream of becoming a police officer, was finally fulfilled when he was hired by his hometown Santa Barbara Police Department, where he stayed until his retirement in 2007. Still not one to remain idle, Leo found himself working, until his death, with the Investigations Department at the Chumash Casino. Leo was loved by all who knew him, a truly kind, gentle, loving, generous man and really funny guy. Above all, even in his joys and in his sorrows, this man always loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Leo leaves behind his loving wife, Erika; sons, David, Tim, Mark (Fran); Mother Eloise Gomez; Siblings Ken Gomez and Joellen Vickers (Greg); grandchildren Alex, Zachary, Tyler, Daniel, Trinity and Zoe; nephews Jake and Trent; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Leonard was predeceased by his brother Frank and his Father Joel. A visitation and viewing will be held at the Chapel of McDermott Crockett Mortuary, 2020 Chapala St., S.B. 4:00pm-7:00pm Thursday August 23. The memorial service will be at 10:00am Friday August 24 at Our Lady of Sorrows, 21 East Cota St., followed by graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, 199 North Hope Ave. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite Veterans charity. "As for God, His Way is Perfect" Psalms 18:30.
